Dublin Day I

Over reading week, Mike and I went to Dublin for four days. The city was absolutely amazing and we loved every minute of it. We saw so many sites and did so many things, I think I'll have to break it down by each day.

First of all, here are some photos of the hostel we stayed in. The Generator was very swanky and cool, it also served really amazing hot dogs.

The lobby

Our room which we shared with four other people...also Mike's legs
On our first day we went to visit Trinity College, which had a stunning campus. We were also able to see (but not allowed to take pictures of) the book of Kells there, which they keep in their breathtaking library (it was like the one the Beast gives Belle in Beauty and the Beast).

Something we soon realized is that everything was written in Gaelic (or as the natives called it, Irish) and in English--even though I doubt that more than a quarter of those that live in Dublin can actually speak fluent Gaelic.

Then we stopped by Oscar Wilde's old house, and saw the garden where his statue is on display.

Like a boss

After which we went to the National Gallery. It was undergoing some extensive renovations, so they only had their major works on display, but that suited us just fine.

No pictures inside, but here was the building
Then on to the National Irish Museum which was a museum devoted to Irish history and archaeology

Then we tried and failed to find University College Dublin, but stumbled upon the Iveagh Gardens which were exquisite, very picturesque.

After that, we decided to walk through St. Stephen's Gardens which was more of a traditional park, but also lovely...it had it's own waterfall.

From there we walked through Grafton Street, a popular shopping area as well as a popular site for busking (which is my new favorite word)

Molly Malone

Some buskers busking

Finally, we went to Old Jameson's Distillery where after our tour we had a whiskey tasting and received our very own diplomas!

We went to Burdock's Fish and Chips for Dinner--the best in Dublin!

All this one the first day!
